I hadn’t brought anything from Craigslist but I have heard online of some people still use it if that helps but I can’t imagine it being as popular with Facebook Marketplace existing.

It really depends on which item I am searching for. I don’t have one that’s 1:1 replacement to Amazon, just at least few websites I go on for whatever I’m looking for.

music from Qobuz but I find them to be overpriced for me but if it support an artist, get the money I guess. Seem as I’m a broke-ass, MusicMagpie would do as I love collecting CDs and holding it sometimes just to look at the album cover.though I occasionally play Fortnite with my son
Just an FYI, Fortnite isn’t supported on Linux so if you still want to dabble with Linux, maybe give a try dual-booting.
Yes but I do recommend installing the two OSes on a different storage device. That’s what I did for my PC.
That’s still changing the Volume from the OS which I find changing the volume to not be as smooth compare to using a Desktop DAC and using knob on my keyboard, volume controls feels like a stair-step where it either bit too high or low and it’s difficult to get it just right. That’s why I like Desktop DAC and use it even over the volume knob on my keyboard.
What do you like better here than on Reddit?
It’s simple and doesn’t try to overwhelm you with pointless features just to pander to Techbros. Not only it is open-source and can be self-hosted, but it also part of the Fediverse. I originally heard about it when someone was talking about it on my Mastodon feed so I check it out and have a love/hate relationship with it.
What do you miss from Reddit?
Really niche subreddit on there to be honest. And while yes, I can “be the change that [I] want to see”, it takes lot of effort to:
But otherwise, I might try throw my hat to the ring and give it a try again at some point. But to be honest, I’m not too sure I would be the best moderator but who knows. Never say never.
Do you feel the culture here is genuinely different, or does it eventually drift the same way?
Yes. I find Lemmy has massive FOSS/DIY-Tech culture embedded which I find FOSS community just in general to be very hit and miss. Great for if you wanting to find FOSS project and support related to whatever Open-Source Software you are using. The major downside that is does feel like at times, a echo chamber of the same opinion and also the lack of nuances which can be frustrating. If you mention anything that isn’t FOSS or something that is very mainstreamed that most normies (and I hate using that word) likes, just expect some bitchy comments about it in the comments selection.
And also expect a lot of dry-humour and sarcasm just in general.
As a Linux Noob, Linux was lot easier than I expect it to be. Think it was me having the “This isn’t Windows so I might as well as research about anything Linux related” mindset which it paid off for me. It got to point where Windows is now my secondary OS (Mainly to use it to use Tomb Editor to make custom Tomb Raider levels which is annoying to get it running with Wine which I don’t know how to troubleshoot at all.)
It’s ironic how it’s now my main OS and if you told me several years ago that I would be mostly using Linux, I would think you’re talking total nonsense.
I remember someone on Discord server I used to be on kept telling people to “use Linux” which back then, I thought it was some scary OS for people who’s tech savvy and wrote him off to be annoying. It was few years when I have my own laptop as early birthday present that I find Windows 10 annoying and remembered Linux exist so I run up a virtual machine and watch so many videos on YouTube about it. Then, I made USB-Boot and installed Linux Mint.
Far from perfect but I feel so much more comfortable using Linux over Windows, feels so much more smoother
I hadn’t tried them as I’m more type person to store stuff on my USB hard-druve (Not ideal but it’s doable) but I have seem people on subbredit called something like r/KodiAddons (and also there’s a community of it in Lemmy but seems dead) use some repo that has plugins to allow you to view pirated shows and films.
So in theory, yes you can as long as there’s some video plugin to allow to do so but it just finding the repo that’s legit. Sorry I can’t help you as much but hope it better than no answer at all
Trigger Warning - Sexual Abuse
I was a year ago back when I have my first ever proper relationship. At first, I genuinely did love them and even confess having crush on them and just started out as friend with benefits, then later on decided to be boyfriends.
Eventually, I just felt it becomes kinda one-sided as they don’t respect my boundaries, including when we are doing kink play like strangling me but when I want it to stop, (I tap them multiple times as that what both of us agree for it as ‘Safe Action’) they don’t for me as they want to “push my limit.” I often had to get their hands off my neck.
Naively, I thought they are just forgetful and I had to try remind them, which (unsurprisingly, looking back at it) didn’t work. Somehow, I still love them despite feeling exhausted to be around them and that outside being sexually assaulted but I feel bad to leave them, mainly as I like to think of myself as a cheerleader of trying to make people close to me happy. They have been hatecrimed for being trans in both real life and on Twitter (and yes, I did tried to tell them to limit or even get off it which they refused to do).
I hate what they did to me where I feel scared of experimenting my sexuality and dating in general. It bugs me that I somehow attach douchebags which makes me feel there’s something wrong with me but don’t understand what have I done to deserve that sort of crowd.
I have heard it does but it was generally just an example of “Try this software but note it may not have this feature if this means lot to you” and suggest others like maybe Krita then?
It’s been a few days and that was just going somewhere with my family as my Mum is looking for old magazine for inspiration for sewing. She thought it be better than just trying do out a pin board on Pinterest as she felt she needs to know what she is roughly looking for in the first place compared just flipping through the magazines.
But just want to say as someone that also suffer with depression, I do feel you that it is difficult to leave the house. I find for me, trying find clubs or activities neary area did help a bit of getting me outside a little bit.
I’m currently using GrapheneOS on my Pixel phone I brought secondhand so think I should (for now) be okay?
Otherwise, Linux phone looks interesting but it just relearning both another OS (like iPhone users trying to learn Android and vice versa) and also just I have low income so buying new tech is just expensive.
I don’t want to throw myself a deepend to an OS that I not as familiar with beside on my desktop and Raspberry Pi. Personally, I prefer to know what’s there before I just go blind so at least I can manage my expectation than expected it to do 1:1 stuff that I do on my phone right now.
Hope this means we eventually get The Sims modding scene to the Fediverse as dispute them loving Tumblr, I always find it clunky to try find CCs
Which one of the timeline do you mean exactly?
I wanna really, really, really wanna ”zig-a-zig”, ah
Only heard of him when I subscribed to r/ToiletPaperUSA which was a parody to Turning Point USA and learnt tiny bit of what he said but I never gone out my way to research about him as I know Far-Right figures (even the online one) just pissed me off.
I only learnt lot more about him when he died when Liberals on Bluesky pull the “we should debate” and sided with Right-wingers who said it’s “The Left” is responsible. Mind you, that’s even before we found out both the killer and their political stance which turns out, he’s the Groyper (some 4Chan far-right bullshit). Think he killed Charlie as they believe he wasn’t Right-wing enough and had for years spread an smear campaign I believe against him.
Do you use youtube mainly?
I mean, we are talking about the most biggest video sharing platform. So yes, I still use it despite how much I hate YouTube and that’s just because the sort of videos I watch is on YouTube and not on places like PeerTube. Personally, I wish more YouTubers, Content Creators (or whatever word as I know people have the pet peeve with the word “Content Creators”) would try other alternative video site like PeerTube, even if it as a mirror.
Do you care about clickbait?
This may be controversial but I think especially as YouTube is driven by the algorithm, you had to do bit of clickbait to make your videos pop from the rest. That being said, I don’t like it when it is both ragebait and it feels insulting to my intelligences. It is an instant no for me and I block the channel with BlockTube as even pressing “Don’t recommend this channel”, YouTube still recommends them.
Do you think clickbait is the major of the YouTube’s problems?
It’s one of the issue but I think Google’s trying to make YouTube as advertiser friendly as possible is the biggest issue. A lot of the issue stem from Google doing that and YouTubers are still trying to adapt and walking on eggshells to still create video while getting monetise. It has got so bad, we are censoring “died”, “kill themself” to “unaliving” or otherwise, they would get demonetise which from what I heard, their video won’t be push out. Those sort of video are talking about some serious subject matters and I know they have good intent but it makes it goofy rather than something serious. I could rant about it but it be off-topic about YouTube clickbait.
But yes, clickbait is the problem and some would make ragebait videos as they know how thin-skinned people are online. I’m thin-skinned as well and I try my very best to avoid them as I know some are just both hateful and low-effort so they are not worth my time.
Do you see something good in clickbait among the bad things? Like, which ones?
My understanding is that clickbait is making some sort of topic or subject matter more clickable. A lot of YouTubers and even journalist online are doing this whether it quote whatever someone said as their headline or whatever. Lot of people associate clickbait as whatever the hell is happening in Mr Beast’s Thumbnails.
