Gacha genre, it feels like. Addicting, but ultimately terrible for your health, though maybe a bit inverted, fast food affecting the body and as a consequence the mind, and gachas first the mind and as consequence the body.

Horror oriented, but Tales from the Loop and its sequel, Things from the Flood, go like this, the first book rather normal despite its subject, but setting up for the shift into the cosmic horror from the second book. Didn’t read The Electric State or The Maze to know if they’re part of the same narrative.
Auster@thebrainbin.orgto Linux@lemmy.ml•what's better on debian 13.1 xfce for Japanese, Chinese and Korean input? fcitx or ibus?2·10 days agoNot familiar with Chinese writing for typing, but through Fcitx, I could configure both Japanese and Korean phonetic keyboards, and that helps a bunch.
If you go this path, going from memory as it's been a while since I set them
- Had to install the keyboards Mozc and Hangul in the “Input Method” tab
- At the “Addon” tab, select the Hangul option, click on Configure at the bottom, and set the keyboard layout as Romaja (and don’t remember if I had to tick them, but Auto Reorder and Hanja mode in the same screen are ticked, but not Word Commit)
- For Mozc, (iirc) go to the Fcitx tray icon > Mozc Tool > Configuration Tool and in the window that opens, have Input Mode as Romaji
- To be able to change inputs with the keyboard, (iirc) at the Global Config tab with the “Show Advanced Options” active, had to tick “Enable Hotkey to scroll Between Input Method” and the option right below to select a key combo at “Scroll between Input Method” (Ctrl Super was the least awkward of the options)

Auster@thebrainbin.orgto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Support Outside of Streaming0·12 days agoFrom what I can observe, usually older companies don’t have direct means of monetization, the option instead seemingly being preferred for smaller/independent groups. I’d expect the team behind South Park to be no different given how long the show’s been around.
And if no means of direct support can be found, best I can think of is to purchase merchandise from the series from official retailers, like DVDs, toys, etc. Some cut will go to other parties, but at least the SP team will be financed, and you’ll have a tangible item too.
Auster@thebrainbin.orgto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•Crunchy roll and yt-dlp0·26 days agoYt-dlp doesn’t deal with cracking, but by fetching the files from DRM-free endpoints of a given service. And from what I’ve seen in issues from both yt-dlp and Grayjay, such endpoints were all removed in recent months for Crunchyroll (and by extensions, neither support downloading from Crunchyroll anymore).
More immediately, push as hard as possible against it. No mountain is too big that it can’t be moved with the right strategy.
On the longer term, forking AOSP would be a good bet, I think, but do note it requires a continuous effort/investment. In the same vein, pushing for Linux and non-Apple-developed BSD systems for mobile (the latter dunno if exists, but if Apple did it, others could also).
Another thing, but for much longer down the line, to change culture. For example, to stop using, as the saying goes, “the language of the enemy”, like instead of “sideloading”, which implies avoiding the main/correct way, say “installing”, and “program” instead of “app”/“application”, same as more standard computers. Also if the situation allows, whenever possible, to point the problem Google is, and to not cause apathy, to include solutions in the argument.
Not writing myself, but if I did and used what I am guessing is just grammar correction, I’d do an entire proof reading of the book to be sure the LLM didn’t break anything.
If you mean to ask an LLM to write a book and the “author” is just supervising, I would say the person isn’t really writing anything.
