Votes in the House were split with 90 Democrats voting in favor of the resolution. The resolution received unanimous support in the Senate.

He will condone the bad in order to prevent the worse and in so doing no longer discern that the very thing that he seems to avoid as worse might well be better. This is where the basic material of tragedy is to be found.

Hijack the day and turn it into a memorial for all gun violence victims, it will piss off the Republicans and maybe do a little good. Probably not though.

I really don’t understand why the Dems are propping up an objectively horrible person.

I get why the pedo party is of course

Performative civility. The dems would hold a vigil for Hitler if their consultants said it would appeal to uncommitted moderate voters.

Because it’s a chance to tacitly insult the late George Floyd, his family and friends, all his supporters, the ‘other team’, and the entire anti-racism movement that has pissed them off so much. They’re not going to pass up an opportunity like that.

Early christians decided to make Xmas in December to align with when pagans were celebrating winter solstice, in order to appropriate the holiday for themselves.

Not saying that’s entirely the reason, but it sure is convenient for them to add their noise.

Fear. That’s why. The right is so unhinged that they fear for their lives.

Not that they are going to be safe anyways.

It’s because the democratic party at large is a fascist-lite party, so they have little qualms about honoring full blown fascists. That and they love nothing more than propping up the idea that we need to keep decorum up at all times.

They also operate under the absurd notion that they can sway Republican voters if they keep moving to the right.

Honoring a guy who openly wanted genocide in Gaza and wanted to have trans people at home killed also isn’t “decorum” but I guess that’s too complex for you to understand

On Friday, the House also approved the resolution, despite 96 Democrats declining to support it.

Former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, whose husband Paul was the victim to political violence himself, was among the 22 Democrats who walked out without voting on the Kirk resolution, but did vote on the short-term government funding bill. Four Republicans also skipped the vote.

it’s all in the article but i guess that’s “too complex for you to read?”

Which party member shot Charlie Kirk?

I can’t believe that it’s so hard for people to believe that someone who made a career being a hate monger was murdered for it.

The kid who killed him was not a politician, he didn’t even vote. He was in a relationship with someone who belonged to a group that Kirk made money on by saying heinous shit about constantly.

I’m not a fan of the Democrats, except that they are the major opposition to the Republicans.

But if you actually want an answer why a theoretical good and honest politician might do something like this, it could be agreements behind the scenes.

If you could get Republicans to stop cutting the ACA subsidies, and the trade-off was something not tangible, like having a day of remembrance for a bad person, you might do it just to save lives.

It is a minority politician’s job to make deals if it furthers their agenda. Obviously, I don’t know if this is what happened here, but it’s theoretically possible.

I went and tried to find some redeeming quality about him and left with nothing. Still shouldn’t have been killed but man he’s not a person you would want to have a national holiday dedicated to.
