Opera Neon is a new browser that puts AI in control of your tabs and browsing activities, but it’ll cost $19.90 per month.
Didn’t opera get bought by some shady company years ago?
Yep.
Vivaldi is basically the real Opera now, including some of its devs IIRC.
It annoys me every time someone puts out an article about Opera and doesn’t open the article with that. Stop pretending it’s just another browser.
They probably don’t know.
So much for journalism.
It happened almost a decade ago and part of the sale was the assets which included the brand. Everyone who cared to know already knows about it, again it happened ~9 years ago. https://techcrunch.com/2016/07/18/opera-renegotiates-its-1-2b-sale-down-to-600m-for-browser-privacy-apps-chinese-jv/
Everyone should care.
That’s bold, I will say that
Genuinely, I don’t understand the draw of any of these ai web browsers. Why would anyone want that. What benefit does it even give?
You’ll finally get rid of some of those unneeded $$ every month…
Allows AI companies to “accidentally” “hallucinate” all of your data perfectly intact
The appeal is probably to people who think AI needs to be integrated into everything just for the sake of it
I can’t imagine what I’d even want the “Ai” to do in the browser.
Same!
That’s an easy no.
why would a payday loan company suggest such a thing surprisedpika.gif
I had no idea they were reusing the name. Apparently they had a different prototype under this name in 2017.
Why would anyone pay you $20/mo when they can sell their personal data to ChatGPT and use it for free?
If you expect someone to pay money, you need to call it anything better than “opera neon”.
