    So: extortion.

That’s what we are talking about here, right?

Not that it would happen, but I would so love for everyone to be remembering all these people for later prosecution under different leadership when Taco’s gone.

These assholes should go to fucking prison for this.

Not to mention both Sinclair and Nexstar are publicly traded companies. Surely getting involved in politics to the point where you are denying your viewership popular programing would eventually negatively affect shareholder value?

I think if I had shares in either of these companies I’d be questioning the leadership of the organization.

These are MAGA companies that have been slowly pushing more and more propaganda on to the public airwaves. They firmly believe that their viewer base won’t be losing that many viewers and are counting on MAGA’s, rightly so probably, to cover for the loss.

Nexstar already has an almost 40% reach across the US. They’ve been sucking up to Trump this year because they want to merge with TEGNA, which would give them access to 80% of the country. To do this though, regulations need to be dropped to allow them to exceed limits that have been in place for decades to prevent this level of media control. This is the quid-pro-quo for them, as Colbert was for the Paramount merger.

            (Source)

As Deadline’s Dade Hayes reported, the merger “challenges decade-old limits on control of local media” as the new company would control 265 local TV stations across 44 states and the District of Columbia, representing about 80 percent of American households. This would far exceed the current limit of 39 percent, which has been in place for the past three decades through both Democratic and Republican administrations.

Making his intentions crystal clear shortly after Trump’s 2024 electoral victory that he sought an end to the broadcast station ownership cap, Sook declared in November that he hoped GOP control of government would help usher in an expansion of his company.

I sure hope someone is keeping stock. Taco himself does so many egregious acts that I can barely keep up with what he did this week, nevermind what he’s done so far in this disastrous second term.

There are often times when someone will bring up something from his first disastrous term and I’ll have this feeling of - oh yeah, how could I have forgotten about that?

And that’s just him. Then there are all the things being done on his behalf by all his Little Eichmanns both when he was in office and not…there is a lot to track. And some of these assholes are so old - like, say, Roger Stone or Bannon - that they will likely die of old age before they get properly sent to (or back to) prison.

I have a feeling a lot of them are going to definitely attempt to do the modern equivalent of burn their Nazi uniforms afterwards, too, and the “liberal media” will do all the heavy lifting to sane wash these dickheads as much as possible. So I’m sure many, probably most, will escape justice.

This is what allowing media consolidation got you, Democrats. Sinclair has been putting its thumb on the scale for decades and you did nothing, even while they were having a measurable negative impact to Democratic support.

    Perhaps most blatantly:

Sinclair executive David Smith met with Donald Trump during the 2016 election year, in which he told the future president, “We are here to deliver your message.”

Goddammit I’m so sick of common people getting blamed for everything while the rich are the ones making shit worse, getting richer of our labor while they molest all these kids. The lobbyist like AIPAC and the billionaires need to be drained of resources and banned from ever doing business in the US again.

It’s probably another example of Murc’s Law. And once you see Murc’s Law in action, you can never unsee it. You’ll see it everywhere, and every day.

        https://whereofonecanspeak.com/2023/03/02/youve-probably-never-heard-of-murcs-law-but-youve-seen-it-in-action-lots-of-times/

Murc’s law is named after the insight of the eponymous LGM commenter that, in American politics, only Democrats are assumed to have agency. Republicans are like rocks rolling down hill or perhaps sharks eating seals: they do what they do because that’s just what they are, so there’s no point in holding them responsible for anything, since they could not do o[t]herwise.

        [emphasis mine]

That great description from : https://www.lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2024/12/the-paradoxical-limits-of-murcs-law

Get the fuck out of here, stop excusing the Democrats. If they had any guts, or loyalty, they would have been popular enough to defeat these Republicans posing an existential threat to the Republic they claim to represent.

After the last three presidential shit shows in a row and you are still excusing these Democrats like they are doing an acceptable job? We already knew what the Republicans were, and we did nothing to stop them, or Worse believed The Establishment Democrats were able and willing to stop them. Fuck your law. The Democrats are fucking worthless and it’s about time you admit you made a mistake so we can get opposition leaders that can win.

Oh, don’t get it twisted: I have my issues with the Democratic Party. Many things drive me crazy about the party. The “moderates” within the party like Manchin. Or the turncoat Fetterman. And just where the fuck have most of them been under this regime? Schumer is supposed to be our firebrand?

And we have a whole lot of supposed activists that seem mostly fired up about identity politics instead of old-school labor activism. Preoccupied with being liberal scolds and trying to shame and ostracize people who might not use the most updated terms for all things, or not be 100% on board for all things left, but might be 80% there. Further polarizing and pushing away people who should be our allies, even if they are merely “pale males”. We had better get as many votes from everyone as possible. If we are only seeking votes from the winners of the Oppression Olympics, we are well and truly fucked.

But as far as actionable things…how do you propose to make anyone you’ve deemed as “establishment” resign? Did you campaign for a challenger? Do we have a stable of challengers somewhere that are viable? All this shit takes money, too - what billionaires are helping to fund any of this?

We need to take the d party from state and county level, and national, and when that fails, as I expect it will for the DCCC, they should be frozen out, mocked, ridiculed, and an alternative organization built out.

Az did as much years back, but they did not have the support of any big picture National Organization to be able to build out an alternate organization as the moderates hid their lists and valuable information and give it to their own alternative organization.

We will never be able to get a stable of Challengers with the party actively suppressing them as we speak. The first step is organizing and getting rid of these hacks that failed us three elections in a row and continue to not realize their mistake.

Finding good candidates needs to be on some forum, perhaps in numerable groups Federated on a national, or International forum where people could cooperate on what they agree on both publicly and privately, where we could find and groom political candidates. But also too work on Collective actions, like if you do not support this thing this many of us will not vote for you type stuff. It would have to be Federated because if not they would find some illegality and illegalize the entire thing. They might do so anyway.

Bad take. It’s not hindsight when everyone was screaming about it, again, literally over a decade ago, and no attempt was made by the Obama or Biden era FCC to regulate it. Maybe you personally weren’t aware of how dangerous this issue was becoming, but many of us were, including, importantly, Democrats in Congress.

When a train is heading for you, and you see it several minutes away, it’s also your responsibility to step off the tracks before it actually runs you over.

Apparently bad faith bigotry allegations are enough to prevent our Democratic leaders from saving our country from an unthinkable irreversible results. Newsom too. Why are the leaders in opposition to the Republicans all fucking cunts? That’s a good question, what is not in question is that pritzker is one of said cunts in question. No challenge for house leadership, senate leadership, not the presidency, not even with a universally unpopular candidate that never breached 30% approval offering zero reform running as the status quo in 2024.
